Thursday April 10
Harder, Faster, Louder, Browner
The hardcore punk group that debuted with the name Kontrakultura will play a set of protest punk with all-riff metalheads Oxido. This aggression will be audible in English and Español. Go to Burt’s Tiki Lounge, 726 S. State Street, where there’s never a cover. Read the cover story from two weeks ago on SLC’s Hardcore Latino Underground for more info—it’s accessible at www.red-mag.com, just click on the archives.

Friday April 11
Urban Tap
Tamango’s “Urban Tap” is a world music and dance experience in a multimedia environment. “Urban Tap” is a fusion of music and dance encompassing Brazilian capoeira, freestyle jazz, tap, hip hop, an African stilt dancer, a singer from India and some Australian didgeridoo players. The performers are supported by a DJ, live video feeds and large video screens to round out the experience. “Urban Tap” is at Kingsbury Hall April 11 & 12 at 7:30 p.m. Regular-price tickets are $15-$32, but University of Utah students can get in for only $5 or $10. Tickets are available at the Kingsbury Hall box office, the Union building desk or through ArtTix (355-ARTS).

Local Old Timey
Lo-Fi Breakdown is a group of local boys—or should I call them men? They play music in the old timey country and bluegrass style. Go see them play at Suede, located on Kimball Junction, 1612 Ute Blvd in Park City. Yee ha.

Midnight Movie: “Catch-22”
Alan Arkin stars in “Catch-22,” Mike Nichols’s (“The Graduate”) adaptation of Joseph Heller’s famous anti-war novel. It will be shown on DVD because no prints could be located. Part of The Tower Theatre’s Midnight Movie Series, every Friday and Saturday at 11:59 p.m. and also part of the Salt Lake Film Society’s Anti-War series, which includes Stanley Kubrick’s hilarious “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb,” playing regularly at the Tower.

Saturday April 12
Bluegrass from Across State Lines
The siblings in The McCloskey Brothers play a style of bluegrass, perhaps nugrass? They hale from Colorado—that’s to our east for the geographically impaired. Anyway, it’s not as retro sounding as old-timey, but it’s still good music from the mountains. They play the Zephyr Club, 301 S. West Temple. 355 CLUB is the number to dial for additional information.

Sunday April 13
Danceable Groovin’ Goodness
SoulLive play what could be classified as acid jazz. Their sound is fresh, groovin’ and danceable. Go get dazzled at Harry O’s, 427 Main Street in Park City. The show is advertised as a no cover event—which means it’s free, sucka!

Monday April 14

Drink of the Week:
Electric Kool Aid

Ingredients:
1 shot Blue Curacao
1 shot Blueberry Schnapps
Fill glass Orange Juice
Instructions:
Pour shots over ice, top with Orange Juice. Looks green, but the ladies love this drink.
Boring Virgin Version:
(say that 10 times fast)
Substitute blue-flavored Kool Aid, preferably blueberry, for any fire water stuff.

Rock Show
Cave In play rock and roll, it’s a bit indie, kind of heavy, sometimes not. The band’s sound is interesting. The Jealous Sound and  The Damn Personals will also play at Club X-scape, 115 S. West Temple.

Tuesday April 15
The Party
Since school is almost over, the Associated Students of the University of Utah are throwing a free party with big national acts and local bands that will play for free. Local Hip-hop influenced group the Flowbots will play. Punk band The Bouncing Souls, which Jamie seems to enjoy, will play and the rap groups The Pharcyde will headline. It all goes down in the free speech area behind the Union, and the festivities start at 2:00 p.m. or something—it’s an extra early show. Read the preview in the Beat section, or else!

Wednesday April 16
DJ Logic
This Bronx native is one of the DJs attributed with bringing jazz into the hip-hop idiom. Go see him do his thing at Harry O’s (427 Main Street Park City).
